Is it for me?

The course is designed for:

Individuals with a curiosity about the world’s deeper movements who are eager to develop a new way of seeing things. They will get a clear sense of how to read information which is typically hidden from us and learn how to reveal the invisible dynamics in systems.

Creatives wishing to release new sources of inspiration and learn to see their expression as existing in a ‘creative field’ from which different energies may be drawn closer to or separated from.

Psychotherapists & health therapists who wish to add an innovative systemic dimension to their work with individual clients. They will learn how to listen systemically to their client’s histories and how to release them from unconscious and often seemingly difficult entanglements.

Consultants & coaches who are looking for new tools to expand the range of solutions they can offer to client & organizations, especially in terms of understanding blocks in work and organizational life including within and across teams.

Professionals who, for their own development, are keen to discover new ways of expanding their practice. They will be given expert tuition on how to adapt a systemic perspective to their specific context.

What will I be taught?

The course will cover both the outer and inner skills required to master the constellations method. All of our teaching fits within our framework of principles, practice and presence as follows:

Principles: you will understand the ‘orders’ as proposed by Bert Hellinger and more recently extended by others. You will be taught, in an accessible way, how systemic thinking connects with other psychological ways of seeing the world but also how it differs. You also will learn how an individual’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health is linked to secret entanglements to their trans-generational family system.

Phenomenology: you will develop the capacity to facilitate a constellation starting without any preconception, using the body as an instrument of resonance, tuning into the subtle signals that a constellation reveals and turning uncertainty into insight.

Presence: you will learn how to remain contemplative and centred during the process so that you don’t miss what emerges in the constellation. In particular you will understand how to achieve the composure necessary for containing and directing the strong forces that a constellation can release. You will also receive tuition on managing your own responses, as well as those of others whilst also holding the group space safely and with ease.

In summary

You will receive a thorough grounding in the theory that underpins the constellations method as well as how the method sits within the wider context of other therapeutic methods.

You will learn how to conduct an interview with your client, as well as, to listen and sense what is important for the client but not yet visible to them.

You will be taught how to work with spatial movements in a constellation and understand what they mean. You will also learn to craft constellating sentences that act as invisible keys unlocking important movements within the system and thereby releasing your client from their entanglements.

You will learn both 1:1 (i.e. desk-top and floor marker applications) as well as group constellating methods.

The learning methods include: talks, seminars, small group constellating exercises, whole group constellations, tutorials, workshop attendance, student note-taking and personal reading.

Shape of the course

In our experience learning the constellations method takes time so the course is structured over a full academic year to allow the students to settle into the group and to begin to practice what they have learnt in a supportive environment. The modules are a mix of mostly weekends in-person with a few evenings online. The weekend modules are structured to keep the learning fresh with live external client-cases, so students don’t have to keep going over the same material. In addition, you will be taught constellations theory, be trained in the necessary skills and have ample opportunity to practice what you have learnt. The weekday evenings will be a mixture of theory, practice and facilitation online. Through-out the course the components of a constellation will be deconstructed and then put back together as well as demonstrated through the live constellations.

Who are the faculty?

Nicola Dunn – Course Leader:

Nicola  is an experienced psychotherapist, teacher, supervisor and specialist 1:1 constellations coach. She has studied individual, group, couple and family psychotherapy and worked as a psychotherapist for well over 30 years. She has supervised post-graduate constellations training groups for over 15 years.

Nicola will cover most of the teaching and be your course tutor.

Robert Rowland Smith – Potential Guest Lecturer (if cover is required):

Robert is a Quondam Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford and the author of five books on philosophy and psychoanalysis. Robert has nearly twenty years’ experience of constellating for individuals and organizations on systemic issues.

What do I receive?

Your place is secured by a non-refundable deposit* of £500 and the fees are £2,950 for the full academic year.

There are also a small number of reduced early-bird fees available (provided on a first-come first-served basis).
